Introduction to JIPMER
Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry, traces its origin to 1823 when a medical school called "Ecole de Medicine de Pondichery" was established by French government. In November 1956 the Government of India took over the medical college and was upgraded as a Regional Centre and named as JIPMER in 1964. The institute is affiliated to Pondicherry University. JIPMER offers MBBS Course and admits 75 students to each batch.Admission to this courses is made on all India basis and strictly on the basis of merit through entrance examinations. JIPMER holds MBBS Entrance Examination in Puducherry, Chennai, Hyderabad, Thiruvanthapuram, Kolkatta and New Delhi.
Eligibility
Students who are Indian nationals, aged 1 7 years and passed Higher Secondary Examination under 10+2+3 pattern with 50% marks in English and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together are eligible to appear in the Entrance Examination.
JIPMER does not prescribe any syllabus for this Entrance Examination. However, it is based on CBSE syllabus for 11 th and 12th standard students. The examination consists of 200 multiple choice questions, of one best response type with four alternatives, equally distributed among English, Botany, Zoology, Physics and Chemistry. The evaluation is fully computerised and there is no negative marking.
JIPMER Entrance Examination is usually conducted on the second Sunday of June every year. The notification of entrance examination is published in all leading news papers and on the website in January/February every year.
